DC Round Two – Part 3: Ford’s Theatre, National Mall, Rock Creek Park, and Clara Barton National Historic Site

DC Round Two – Part 3: Ford’s Theatre, National Mall, Rock Creek Park, and Clara Barton National Historic Site

Alas, my final post of my final day of my crazy trip trying to get all of the National Park Service units visited in the DC region! September 16, 2023 DC is an absolute ghost town at 8:15am on a Saturday. It is a bit bizarre to be in a place where hotels are cheaper…

Continuing on my whirlwind trip to finish out all the DC National Park Service (NPS) units… September 15, 2023 My work conference wrapped up with a half-day session, which meant for the next 24 hours I would be on personal time before my flight home! I had chosen to swap hotels, trading in some Hilton…

DC Round Two – Part 1: Frederick Douglass National Historic Site, Theodore Roosevelt Island, and LBJ Memorial Grove

Work would take me to Washington, DC once again, so I knew I had to make the best of it, and finish out the remaining National Park Service (NPS) units I had not visited during my previous trip in 2022. Unlike in 2022, a lot of sites that were closed for renovation were reopened and…

September 14, 2022 I actually grumbled when my alarm went off, and I made plenty of grumpy noises as I prepared for the day. After a long day of travel the previous day topped off with miles of walking and staying up later than I wanted, I was… grumpy. But time to turn the frown…

Seein’ the DC – Part 1: Lincoln, FDR, & MLK Memorials, Korean War Memorial, and Lincoln Memorial

Washington, DC offers up almost a dizzying array of National Park Service (NPS) units that are quick to check off, so needless to say, when an opportunity to travel to DC for work came up, I knew I’d want to take a personal day to see as many as I could! With plans set in…

About the Adventuring Heidi

Hi, I’m Heidi!

I’m a mountain-seeker, a solo backpacker, and a firm believer that the best stories usually involve a few “misadventures” along the way.

My love for the outdoors isn’t just about checking peaks off a list—it’s about the quiet moments on the trail, the logistical puzzles of wilderness permits, and the thrill of seeing what’s over the next ridge. Based in the heart of the American West, I’ve spent my years navigating everything from the high-alpine tundra of the Rockies to the desolate, sun-scorched beauty of Death Valley.

When I’m not out on the Continental Divide, you can find me endlessly researching my next great trip or plotting my next great escape (whatever it may be) into the wild.

Thanks for stopping by—I’ll see you out on the trail!
